Maureen and Robert Freedland Fund for Studies of the Shoah (Holocaust) The purpose of this Fund is to award grants to schools in the greater Eau Claire area for educational programs about the Holocaust and related topics. It was established in memory of family members and all others who perished during the Holocaust. It is dedicated to honoring their relatives and all those who sought religious freedom by coming to America. The term "Shoah," meaning "catastrophe," refers to the genocide in which approximately six million Jews and five million others were killed by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. In short, the Fund aims to educate and raise awareness about the Holocaust and related topics, ensuring that its history is remembered and taught to future generations. Grants from this Fund will support programs that teach the history of the Holocaust, its impact, and the importance of tolerance, human rights, and religious freedom. Granting opportunities include: Training at the Viterbo University Holocaust Workshop: This aligns with the Fund's goal of providing educational resources for teachers/staff to better educate their students about the Holocaust. Other available training courses that school districts may be interested in. Purchasing materials needed for Holocaust education. Lectures/presentations to students: This supports the educational outreach aspect, ensuring that middle and high school students are directly engaged in learning about the Holocaust.
