Alvin and Marcia Lechleitner Scholarship Fund

About the Fund

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Alvin and Marcia Lechleitner Scholarship Fund is to support the post-secondary educations of graduating seniors at Memorial and North High Schools who plan to pursue a degree in teaching Pre-K to Grade 12, including special needs education.

The Fund will award two scholarships each year to students in the Eau Claire Area School District. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from North High School, and a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Memorial High School.

Graduates who plan to attend a two-year school for generals before continuing on to a four-year degree or a four-year post-secondary educational institution are qualified to apply.

HISTORY:

Post-secondary education, primarily attending a college to further oneself, is most important to Al and Marcia.  Al and Marcia worked in the field of education as teachers, and Al was a principal for 35 years.  Al, a farm boy and a family first-generation college graduate, was an intermediate grade teacher for two years, followed by a teaching principalship for two years in Weyerhaeuser, WI, before becoming an elementary principal at 6 schools in the Eau Claire Area School District: Black, McKinley, Sherman, Longfellow, Manz and Locust Lane.

Marcia was an elementary teacher in Ladysmith, WI for 3 years before teaching at four Eau Claire Area Schools: Sam Davey, Park, Arlington and Meadowview. Throughout her 33 year career, she served as a cooperating teacher for many UW-EC education student teachers. After retirement, she was a substitute teacher for nine more years.
