Before John and Lela Thompson passed away, they started this Designated Named Fund at the Eau Claire Community Foundation to support three organizations that had been important to them: Spirit Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, the Chippewa Valley Museum, and the L.E. Phillips Senior Center.

The Thompsons' legacy of generosity continues through the use of their fund in accordance with their wishes. Both John and Lela had careers in Eau Claire - John at RCU and Uniroyal and Lela with the Eau Claire Area School District. When they established their fund, their goal was to give back to their community. They learned that the Eau Claire Community Foundation serves the same local interests as they did. John stated in 2000, "Our only regret is that we didn't get started sooner!"
